Old and new tax regimes
This lesson is not yet available in that language; showing English for now.
India currently has two income tax regimes:
- New regime: lower slab rates but most deductions are not allowed. It is the default.
- Old regime: higher slab rates, but deductions such as Section 80C and 80D are allowed.
Which is better depends on your income and how much you invest in eligible options. Compare both each year, or ask your tax adviser.
*Tax benefits are as per prevailing tax laws, which are subject to change.*
